The
City of Dallas was named after a Philadelphian – George
Mifflin Dallas, pictured below (yes, on the right), who was Mayor
of Philadelphia, a US Senator from Pennsylvania, and, from 1845
to 1849, the Vice President of the US under President
James Knox Polk.

Are
Texans really smarter than Philadelphians? You be the judge.
As
for those Stetson cowboy hats Texans are so fond of wearing – they
were invented by John B. Stetson, whose Philadelphia-based Stetson
Hat Company was once the largest hat company in the world.

So
the next time some dopey galoot in a Cowboys jersey gives you
that old “Don’t mess with Texas” line (which
was probably written by a Philadelphia ad agency), just politely
respond: “Don’t f--- with Philadelphia.”
