TASTYKAKE

TASTYKAKE

The truth is, you don’t need to have dessert with a cheese steak. But IF you’re going to have dessert, if you’re going for the complete experience, there is one – and only one – dessert that is worthy.

Tastykake.

The Tasty Baking Company has been baking Tastykakes right here in Philadelphia since 1914. Butterscotch Krimpets. Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. Koffee Kake Juniors. Chocolate Kreamies. Cupcakes, with or without cream filling. Odd-looking but delicious “pies”. Bite-size donuts.

TASTYKAKE

Tastykake is not only the most fabulous packaged pastry on the planet – it is our life. It is who we are. Tastykakes are in our blood -- literally.  Al Martino sang about Tastykake and other Philly Celebs praised its virtues in radio and TV ads. And whenever the Flyers scored a goal en route to their first Stanley Cup, they scored it for a case of Tastykake.

TASTYKAKE

It used to be that if Philadelphians moved to another city, the only way they could still have Tastykake in their new homes was to stuff their suitcases full of Tastykakes when they paid a return visit to the Delaware Valley. That’s no longer an issue. Tastykake is now available in many stores up and down the East Coast, and available online as well.

SON OF SWOOP
SON OF SWOOP: “Didn’t Kandy Kakes used to be called ‘Tandy Takes’? I still call them ‘Tandy Takes’ and my girlfriend thinks I’m a retard."

OZZARD OF WHIZ
OZZARD OF WHIZ: “You ARE a retard, SOS. But for the record, you are correct. They used to be called ‘Tandy Takes’.”

SON OF SWOOP
SON OF SWOOP: “And another thing. When I open a package of Butterscotch Krimpets or Cream Filled Cupcakes, the icing sticks to the wrapper instead of the tops of the cakes.”

OZZARD OF WHIZ
OZZARD OF WHIZ: “What you need to do is look for a freshly-opened box and take a package from the top layer of the box. Make sure it’s ‘puffy’ – in other words, the wrapper is not stuck to the icing. Then, taking care not to touch the ‘icing’ part, pinch the end of the wrapper between the thumb and forefinger of each hand, and gently pull apart at the seal.”

SON OF SWOOP SON OF SWOOP: “Oz, you are all the good things wrapped up in one.”
